A court in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday dismissed the bail plea of ​​Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair in connection with an FIR lodged against him in 2021 for allegedly promoting enmity. The bail plea was filed before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohammadi on July 11 after the court sent Zubair to 14-day judicial custody.

“After hearing the arguments of the prosecution and defense counsel, ACJM Ruchi Srivastava dismissed Mohd. Zubair’s bail plea,” Senior Prosecution Officer (SPO) SP Yadav told PTI. Yadav said that the police remand of Zubair is to be heard on July 20.

The Lakhimpur Kheri police had issued a warrant to Zubair to appear in the court in connection with the FIR. Mohammadi police station in-charge Amber Singh had said that a case was registered against Zubair on November 25 last year by Ashish Katiyar, a reporter of a private news channel.

He said Katiyar in his complaint had accused Zubair of misleading people by tweeting about his channel.
