“The chief minister has crossed all limits in rigging the election of the district panchayat president. His undemocratic conduct has posed a threat to the constitutional institutions in the state,” Yadav said.
“By hijacking the mandate, the state administration forcibly prevented candidates of the Samajwadi Party and other opposition parties from filing nominations,” the former chief minister said in a statement.
Yadav also accused the state government of harassing SP leaders and registering fake criminal cases against them.
“It is sad that the officials remained mute spectators to disrupt the election process. The Election Commission is also helpless and the Raj Bhavan has kept silence.
Yadav said that the SP candidate was kept under house arrest in Balrampur and his nomination papers were snatched.
He said that even in Gorakhpur, BJP workers gheraoed the main gate of the district collectorate and guarded every point of the building leading to the nomination hall.

“The nomination paper of the SP candidate in Varanasi was rejected.
Yadav alleged that BJP workers also tried to kidnap the SP candidate in Basti in the presence of police.
Unfortunately, in many districts the police and revenue officials were seen playing an active role in preventing SP and other opposition candidates from filing nomination papers,” Yadav said.
“The chief minister and the BJP leadership may pat their backs for forcibly converting their defeat in the district panchayat elections into victory by using such undemocratic methods, but they will have to face the assembly elections in future,” he said.
“People are going to answer them (BJP) in their language. The SP will come back in 2022 by winning 350 seats in the assembly and the BJP will be reduced to a few seats and will be forced to sit in the opposition.” Yadav said.
If necessary, voting will be held on July 3 for the election of district panchayat presidents.
The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission had earlier said in its election notification that the counting of votes would be done on the same day.
