Seven Union ministers on Sunday met Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu and demanded action against some opposition members for their alleged unruly acts in the House on August 11. The ministers met Naidu and described the actions of the opposition members as “unprecedented, extreme”. and violent”, the sources said.

He said that the ministers submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Speaker. During the meeting with Naidu, the delegation also mentioned about preventing marshals from discharging their duties inside the House.

Naidu said that he would look into the matter and take a decision regarding appropriate action. Among the ministers who met the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha were Piyush Goyal, Pralhad Joshi, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav, Arjun Ram Meghwal and V Muraleedharan.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh was also present in the meeting. Naidu also held a meeting with the panel’s vice-chairman, Sasmit Patra, who was in the chair at the time of the uncontrolled incidents in the Rajya Sabha.

The Speaker visited the Parliament House on Saturday and watched the full video recording of the scenes of the House on 11 August, including the scuffle between some members and marshals. Naidu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla have discussed the matter earlier and have indicated that strict action will be taken against the guilty MPs.

Sources said the Rajya Sabha chairman is considering various options, including setting up a high-powered committee to probe the incidents and recommending steps to avoid their recurrence in future.
