BJP has fielded Anil Menasinakai, who is contesting for the third time in a row, from the Gadag assembly constituency.

As both the Congress and the BJP announced their election manifestos for the May 10 Karnataka Assembly polls, veteran Congress leader HK Patil on Tuesday said it was unfortunate that some sections were questioning his party’s poll promises made for the poor. Raises questions, but raises questions on not waiving loans to the rich. ,

In an interview with PTI, Patil – who is contesting to retain his home constituency of Gadag assembly constituency – said the quality of the campaign this time has come down to a very low level and this is a step towards making the country’s democracy healthy. Not good for

He expressed confidence that the Congress would win all the four seats in Gadag district.

In the 2018 election, the BJP won three assembly seats (Shirahatti, Ron and Nargund), while the Congress captured Gadag. The Gadag constituency has been ruled by the Patil family for 47 years.

Patil is also the Maharashtra in-charge of the Congress.

Asked how the Congress plans to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto if voted to power, Patil said: “It is unfortunate that whenever an election promise is made for the poor, everyone Asks types of questions. Has anyone questioned the Government of India writing off loans worth Rs 10 lakh crore to 523 industrial houses?’

Asked why the Congress is not empowering the poor but making them dependent on such schemes, he said, “I believe we should empower them too. But we need to sustain them for some time and then put them on their feet.” He said the poor and the middle class are affected by inflation and price rise.

Patil – who has handled multiple portfolios as a minister, the quality of the campaign has come down.

“It is unfortunate that this time the level has come down to a very low level. This is not good for making our democracy healthy.” Democracy has been weakened by “unhealthy statements and malpractices in the state”.

Asked why he is less so despite being a senior Congress leader, Patil said he is not in the habit of being aggressive with words.

“The political climate has deteriorated now. I do not appreciate unnecessary aggression,” he said.

Days before polling on May 10, Patil – who was an MLC for 20 years and an MLA for a decade – is focusing on silent voters in his constituency.

“There is no need to woo my supporters and well-wishers, especially when eight days are left (for polling). It’s time to attract neutrals. That’s what we’re doing naturally,” he said.

Asked why he is not being seen as a chief ministerial contender like many other party leaders, he said, “Let me make it very clear, it is the high command that ultimately decides who should be made the chief minister.” …” on the alleged. The scam regarding the Rs 190-crore water testing laboratory during the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government when he was the minister for rural development and panchayat raj, he said, “There is no dispute. People are jealous of the success of that scheme. If there is any suspicion of wrongdoing, let the government investigate and take action.”

Patil said the Congress would benefit from the entry of former senior BJP leaders Jagadish Shettar and Laxman Savadi. The results in Lingayat-dominated Bombay-Karnataka region will be surprising as Congress will win more than 36 out of 56 seats.

We’ll cross the magic number. I wouldn’t say we’ll stop at the magic figure. We will be comfortable and form the government.”

In the Gadag assembly constituency, the BJP has fielded Anil Mensinakai, who is contesting for the third consecutive term, while the JD(S) is fielding Govinda Gowda, a social worker and an IT entrepreneur. Though 14 candidates are in the fray, the constituency is witnessing a triangular contest.
