ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday congratulated the Muslim Ummah after the United Nations (UN) adopted a landmark resolution designated March 15 as the “International Day to Combat Islamophobia”.

The Prime Minister wrote on Twitter that the United Nations has finally accepted the serious Islamophobia challenge facing the world.

“Today, the United Nations has finally accepted the serious challenge facing the world: reducing Islamophobia, respect for religious symbols and practices and systematic hate speech and discrimination against Muslims,” ​​the prime minister said in a series of tweets.

Congratulating the Muslim ummah, the Prime Minister said, “Our voice has been heard against the rising tide of Islamophobia.”

The premier shared that the United Nations, consisting of 193 member states, has adopted a landmark resolution tabled by Pakistan on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), marking March 15 as the “International Day to Combat Islamophobia”. marked as . designated in.

The OIC observes 15 March every year to combat Islamophobia after a resolution was passed by the organization at the 47th session of the OIC Foreign Ministers’ Council in November 2020.

PM Imran Khan has raised his voice against the growing trend of Islamophobia in international forums including the United Nations and called upon the global community to rise to the challenge.

In January, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Islamophobia was not acceptable at any cost and vowed to make his country safe for Muslims.
