Former India fast bowler RP Singh has thrown his weight behind fast bowler Umran Malik and said that the youngster has a lot of talent and skill.

He said, ‘Umran (Malik) will definitely get a chance but it will be interesting to see how he cements his place in the Indian team. He has got a lot of talent and skill but at the same time he has to implement it in the right way and that will only come through experience,” said Singh during an interaction with CricketNext.

The young pacer from Jammu and Kashmir has put in some remarkable performances in the Indian jersey and impressed many with his pace in limited opportunities.

When asked about the importance of having a left-arm pacer in the line-up, the former India player said, “The left-arm pacer is very important in the line-up. He creates a lot of chances and makes an impact.”

SA20 has made some interesting and innovative changes to the rules for the inaugural edition of the tournament. When asked about this, RP Singh said that making one or two changes is fine but it definitely kills the creativity of the game.

He said, ‘It is an attempt to make the tournament interesting. For example, when the ball hits the stumps on a free-hit while the batsman is on strike, it must be a dead ball.

It was included because something similar happened during the T20 World Cup match where the Indian team got three runs against Pakistan. It was then that it came into limelight. So, they have made some changes but I think too many changes can kill the creativity of the game. It is okay to have some of them,” he said.
