The notice mentioned that “the building looked dangerous”.
The notice was issued on Wednesday in the name of Ramesh Vehrani, a building secretary. It reads, “On visual inspection, prima facie your building appears to be structurally unstable and unsafe. You are therefore directed to conduct a structural audit of the building by a qualified structural engineer within 14 days and to comply with necessary compliances, if any Goes.”

UMC pasted notice on the gate of the open plot

A person who lived in the building that stood on the plot four years ago, on condition of anonymity, told TOI, “Our building was demolished four years ago with the intention of redeveloping it, but we are surprised that the UMC has Issued without any notice. physical examination.”
After the incident came to light, local councilor Sherry Sher lund Demanded UMC Commissioner Dr. Raja Dayanidhi to take action against the employees of the Municipal Corporation who pasted the notice at the gate of the open plot without physical verification.
Lund told TOI, “I have already raised this issue in the general body meeting regarding random issuance of notices to buildings without physical verification of UMC employees. But this act of issuance of notice to an open plot where the building was demolished four years back shows that the civic body is deliberately creating panic and harassing people.”
Meanwhile, activist Shashikant Dayma said, “It is found that UMC has so far issued notices to 1500 buildings in the city without any physical inspection and asked them to conduct structural audit. This has created fear among the citizens.”
The UMC has now ordered an inquiry into the incident.
UMC public relations officer Dr Yuvraj Bhadane said, “The UMC commissioner has ordered an inquiry into the same and the civic employees who have issued notices without visiting the spot will face strict action.”
