‘Ukrainian officials kicked Indians’: UP student takes exams after returning

new Delhi: As the situation in Ukraine worsened due to continued attacks by Russia, Indian nationals trying to leave Ukraine were “kicked” and “dragged” by the authorities at the country’s border, an Indian student told news agency PTI on Wednesday. Quoted claimed.

Anshika, a third year MBBS student in Vinnitsia, Ukraine, reached Delhi at around 11 pm on Tuesday and reached home in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

Anshika told PTI, “I had given up all hope of returning to India as the situation there was grim. We were all comforting each other and sharing the pain.”

While she is thousands of kilometers away from the conflict-torn country, the sound of the alarm cools her, bringing back terrifying memories of the demolition of the southern Bug River in the city she once called home.

According to her father Amir Singh Yadav, Anshika cannot tolerate loud horns or sirens.

Anshika said, on February 26, she along with 50 other students boarded a bus from Vinnytsia to Chernivtsi and arrived at night after traveling for about 10 hours. Without waiting for dawn, they walked six kilometers to reach the Romanian border.

“The sound of gunfire scared us. We were walking towards the Romania border and praying to God. In the desperation to cross the border, some students fell down and were injured and unable to walk. However, they Proceed after being taken. Helping others,” she said.

“At the border, Ukrainian authorities made those coming from the cities of Ternopil and Ivano cross the border first, and then someone pushed the students, injuring a girl. The Romanian army also opened fire in the air,” he said.

“After this, the Ukrainian authorities kicked the Indian students who had fallen down and were also dragged, she said, however, the citizens of Ukraine were very helpful.”

“Then we got entry into Romania and we were given food, water and a blanket. Their (Romanian) behavior was much better,” she said.

Today, the Indian Embassy in Ukraine has issued a second advisory within an hour asking Indian citizens to leave Kharkiv immediately.
