Ukraine is expected to launch a much-anticipated counter-offensive soon to retake Russian-held territory, including the Zaporizhia region

Some 1,679 people, including 660 children, had been evacuated from areas near the Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant, an official in Moscow said late on Sunday in the Russian-controlled parts of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya region.

The head of the UN nuclear watchdog warned on Saturday that the situation around the plant had become “potentially dangerous” as authorities in Moscow began evacuating people from surrounding areas.

Ukraine is expected to launch a much-anticipated counteroffensive soon to recapture Russian-held territory, including the Zaporizhzhya region.

“(The evacuees) have already been placed in a temporary housing center for residents of front-line areas of Zaporizhzhya region in Berdyansk,” said Yevgeny Balitsky, the Russian-installed governor of the Russia-controlled part of Zaporizhzhya region. Telegram messaging channel.

Berdyansk is a southeastern Ukrainian port city on the coast of the Sea of ​​Azov, which has been occupied by Russia since the early days of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
