Ukraine and Russia today disagreed on the outcome of the third round of talks in Belarus. While a Kyiv negotiator spoke of a “positive outcome”, a Russian negotiator said his hopes were “not met”, AFP news agency reported.

  1. The third round of talks with Ukraine focused on opening humanitarian corridors from Ukrainian cities. After the meeting, the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, said, “The talks did not meet our expectations. We hope that next time we will be able to take more important steps.”

  2. However, Mikhailo Podolik, adviser to the President of Kyiv, indicated that some progress had been made, tweeting, “We have achieved some positive results related to the logistics of humanitarian corridors,”

  3. Earlier today, Ukraine rejected Russian plans for a humanitarian corridor for Russia and Belarus for Kyiv, Mariupol, Kharkiv and Sumy. According to maps published by the RIA news agency, the corridor from Kyiv will lead to Belarus, while citizens of Kharkiv will only be allowed into Russia. Russia also said it would launch an airlift to take Ukrainians from Kyiv to Russia.

Spokesperson of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, said Russia was trying to “use people’s suffering to create a television picture”. “They are citizens of Ukraine, they should have the right to vacate the territory of Ukraine,” news agency Reuters quoted the spokesman as saying.

  5. The mayor of Sumy, Alexander Lysenko, along with the commander of the national battalion, announced that “there will be no green corridor, not a single civilian will go to Russia, and those who try to do this will be shot.”

  6. Russia declared a ceasefire in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mariupol and Sumy from 12.30 pm on Monday. But it also failed when Ukraine rejected the corridor plan.
