Doval’s meeting with his United Kingdom (UK) counterpart comes against the backdrop of British state broadcaster BBC’s controversial documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak attended the High Commission meeting in London between India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his British counterpart Tim Barrow in a ‘special gesture’. India Where is it?

Doval is in London after Tuesday’s meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington.

“A special gesture by PM Rishi Sunak to join in for a while. NSA conversation between Sir Tim Barrow and M. Doval in the Cabinet Office. Attach great importance to PM’s assurance of his government’s full support to deepen strategic partnership in trade, defence, S&T. Indian High Commission tweeted, looking forward to Sir Tim’s visit to India soon.

Doval’s meeting with his United Kingdom (UK) counterpart comes against the backdrop of British state broadcaster BBC’s controversial documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India and the UK share a comprehensive strategic partnership with each other. The two countries are also in the midst of negotiations for a free trade agreement, out of which six rounds of talks have been concluded.

After becoming PM, Sunak indicated that he would take a different approach to trade deals from his predecessor, Liz Truss. Sunak had said, “My approach would be one where we don’t sacrifice quality for speed.”

“I want to take the time to get the trade deals right,” he said.

Although Truss was prime minister for only a few weeks, her administration as trade minister set the tone for the UK’s negotiations.
