Uddhav vs Eknath Shinde: Supreme Court Bench of CJI Ramana to hear on July 20

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will once again stand against Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray as the Supreme Court – under a bench headed by Chief Justice India NV Ramana – hears the petition for disqualification of rebel Shiv Sena MLAs. The Supreme Court bench will also have Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Hima Kohli.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state till the constitution bench of the apex court gives its verdict. Raut took a dig at the newly formed state government over the delay in the formation of the new cabinet.

“Barbados has a population of 2.5 lakhs and yet has a cabinet of 27. Maharashtra’s population of 12 crores has a cabinet of two members which is taking arbitrary decisions. Where is the respect for the Constitution?” He tweeted.

Referring to the Constitution, he questioned why no cabinet has been formed yet. “Article 164 (1-A) of the Constitution states that the number of ministers, including the CM of the state, should not be less than 12. For the past 2 weeks, the cabinet consisting of just 2 ministers is taking decisions that are not constitutionally valid. .. Honorable Governor, what is going on? He asked.

Shinde’s rebellion last month led to the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government, which also included the NCP and Congress. Shinde took oath as the Chief Minister on June 30 along with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis as the Deputy Chief Minister.

There are reports that the state cabinet will be formed after the presidential election on July 18. A senior BJP leader has said that the expansion of the cabinet can be done on July 20 or 21.
