Udaipur Tailor Murder: Curfew relaxed for 4 hours, 10 hours relief on Sunday

The district administration here on Saturday relaxed for four hours the curfew imposed in seven police station areas in view of the killing of a tailor, officials said. However, mobile internet services remained suspended.

The curfew will be relaxed by 10 hours on Sunday as the situation gradually returns to normal, officials said. Two men killed Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor, with a knife at his shop in Dhan Mandi area here on Tuesday to avenge the “insult to Islam”.

After the incident, curfew was imposed in the areas bordering seven police station areas – Dhan Mandi, Ghanta Ghar, Hathi Pol, Amba Mata, Suraj Pol, Bhupalpura and Savina. Udaipur Collector Tara Chand Meena said, “Curfew has been relaxed in the city from 12 noon to 4 pm today. Relaxation will be given from 8 am to 6 am on Sunday.”

Official sources said the decision to relax the curfew was taken after reviewing the situation. He said that with the peaceful conduct of Friday’s Jagannath Rath Yatra, which was attended by thousands, the administration decided to relax the curfew on Saturday.

Four people have been arrested in connection with Lal’s murder.
