PM had raised the issue of UCC in MP
Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of Uniform Civil Code during a public meeting in Madhya Pradesh on 27 June. He said that at present instigation is being done in the name of UCC. If there is one law for one member of the family in a house and another law for another member, then that house will not be able to run.

In such a situation, how will the country be able to run with a dual system? The constitution also talks about equal rights of citizens. The Supreme Court is also saying to bring a common civil code.

After this, the opposition parties including Congress, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Awaisi had called the BJP a conspiracy to divert attention from the main issues. The Muslim Personal Law Board also called a meeting on Tuesday and asked to present its case before the Law Commission.

The statement of Law Commission Chairman Justice Rituraj Awasthi also came to the fore. He said- UCC is not a new issue. We have also started the consultation process. For this, the commission has sought the opinion of the general public.

Justice Rituraj Awasthi also spoke on the sedition law. He said- Sedition law is necessary for the unity and integrity of the country. In its report, the commission has also recommended retaining Section 124A related to sedition in the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

What will be the effect if UCC is implemented

crisis on personal law
On the basis of diversity in the country, there are personal laws of different religions and communities. With the implementation of UCC, there will be a crisis on these personal laws. The reason is that in any personal matter, when the personal laws of both the parties are different, then there is a problem in front of the court as well. Or due to the compulsion of personal law, the court also seems unable to protect the rights of a person.

Shariat will be challenged
Majority of the population will not be affected much. However, in Madhya Pradesh, 7% of the population of Muslims and 21% of the population of tribals will be affected more. This is because their personal laws regarding polygamy, divorce and succession are different from those of the majority of Hindus.

More than one marriage will also be a crime
Muslim personal law allows Muslims to have more than one marriage. If, after the Uniform Civil Code comes into force, polygamy will be an offence. In addition, if a Muslim woman divorces her husband and wishes to live back with him, the halala and iddat would be dispensed with.

Promotion of gender equality legislation
If a Muslim woman divorces her husband and wants to live back with him, procedures like halala and iddat are mandatory, which will go away after the UCC comes into force, so when it comes to Uniform Civil Code, It is also seen as a law promoting gender equality.

women also share in ancestral property
Women will also start getting a share in ancestral property. If any Parsi woman marries into another religion, then according to her personal law, she does not get a share in the ancestral property. Uniform Civil Code will be able to give them this right. It is also being seen linked to gender equality.
