The U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, starting January 14, will see the highest number of female match officials to be appointed for an ICC event

international Cricket The Council (ICC) announced on Thursday that nine of the 15 match officials will be present for the first warm-up matches and group stage of the Under-19 Women’s T20. world Cup in South Africa.

This will mark the highest number of female match officials to be appointed for any ICC event in the tournament starting January 14. In total, 12 umpires and three match referees will take part in the tournament, which will be played at four venues in the two host cities: Benoni and Potchefstroom.

Former Sri Lanka women’s team captain Vanessa de Silva heads the ICC International Panel of Match Referees which also includes former Bangladesh international cricketer Niyamur Rashid and Zimbabwe’s Owen Chirombe.

Four members of the ICC International Panel of Umpires – Wayne Knights, Ahmed Pakhtin, Virender Sharma and Shahid Saikat – will officiate in individual matches in the tournament.

Members of the International Panel of ICC Development Umpires who will officiate include former Sri Lankan women’s batsman Dedunu de Silva, Kerin Klast, Maria Abbott, Sarah Bartlett, Jasmine Graham, Lisa McCabe, Sarah Dembenwana and Candace La Borde.

“We are delighted to announce the match officials who will officiate at the historic ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. We are delighted that this group of officials reflects the work we are doing to advance women in our sport as part of the ICC’s global development strategy.”

The appointments for the semi-finals and final of the tournament will be made at the end of the league stage. In a 16-team tournament divided into four groups, the top three teams from each group would advance to the Super Six round, where the teams would be placed in two groups of six.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, which will be played at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on January 27. The final will be held on January 29 at the same ground.
