Some people claimed that a racket was involved in the bidding process and was quoting such huge numbers.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Thursday said that a two-wheeler vanity number HP-99-9999 has received an impressive bid of Rs 1.1 crore. The bid was received during the ongoing e-auction in Himachal Pradesh, and as per reports, it is expected to increase further.

HP-99 is the RTO number of Kotkhai sub-division in Shimla and there were 26 bidders in the bidding process when bids were received. Some screenshots of the online auction were also being widely shared on social media platforms.

The bidding process will end on Friday and Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu has sought details of the bid against the highly sought-after vanity number. With the screenshots going viral on social media, some have demanded vigilance and income tax officials to check the credentials of the person bidding.

Alleging that the move was to ultimately drive common people out of the bid, some users claimed that a racket was involved in the process and quoting such huge numbers.

“The bidding process for the fancy numbers is still going on,” a Hindustan Times The report quoted Regional Transport Officer Manjit Sharma as saying. “The auction will close on Friday and we will be able to comment on it then,” he added.
