Two more gold medals for India in Shooting Junior World Championship

India added two more golds to their kitties on day three of competition at the ongoing International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru, with Manu Bhaker winning her second gold of the tournament, this time with Sarabjot Singh. In partnership 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event and the trio of Shrikant Dhanush, Rajpreet Singh and Parth Makhija won the 10m Air Rifle Team Men title.

Manu and Sarabjot led India 1-2 in the air pistol mixed team event, where they challenged the other Indian pair of Shikha Narwal and Naveen 16-12 in a gold medal match.

Earlier the qualification round comprised of eight teams, both the Indian pair finishing 1-2 as well with Manu and Sarabjot on 386 points, while Shikha and Naveen were one point behind with 385.

In the junior men’s 10m Air Rifle team event, the trio of Srikanth, Rajpreet and Parth also finished on top of their six-team qualification round with a total of 1886.99 to make it to the gold medal match. Each shooter shot 60-60 in the qualification round.

In the final, they defeated a strong American team that included Rylan Kissel and John Blanton, in addition to defending Olympic champion William Shaner, by a 16–6 margin.

India also won another silver medal on the day when the pair of Rajpreet Singh and Atmika Gupta lost 15-17 to William Shaner and Mary Carolyn Tucker of USA in the 10m air rifle mixed team event.

Rajpreet and Atmika finished second in qualification with a combined 418.5 after 20-20-shots along with the American pair. The American pair scored 419.9 points to top the eight-team field.

Two other Indian teams in the 10m Air Rifle Women’s and 10m Air Pistol Men’s events also advanced to the gold medal matches after their respective qualifying rounds.

The third day’s competitions were still underway and at the time of writing India were leading the medal tally with four gold, five silver and two bronze medals for a total of 11 medals.
