The explosion occurred on Sunday afternoon at a factory in Panshan County in northeastern Liaoning Province.

State media reported on Monday that two people were killed and 34 injured in a chemical plant explosion in China.

The explosion occurred at a factory in Panshan county in northeastern Liaoning province on Sunday afternoon, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

CCTV quoted local officials as saying that 12 people were missing since the explosion and the injured were admitted to the hospital for treatment.

“The fire is currently under control and the rest of the flames are in a continuous state of burning,” CCTV said.

Videos and pictures published by CCTV showed thick smoke and a cloud of flames billowing from the factory and a group of firefighters in helmets outside the plant.

CCTV said that more than 330 firefighters have been sent to control the fire.

Industrial accidents are common in China due to lax safety standards and poor enforcement.

In December, 18 people were trapped underground after a gold mine caved in in northwest China’s Xinjiang region.
