Fans on social media opined that Venkatesh Prasad finally got his way as KL Rahul was dropped from the Indian men’s cricket team for Shubman Gill.

India captain Rohit Sharma elected by winning the toss Young opener Shubman Gill came in place of KL Rahul to bat in the third Test against Australia here on Wednesday.

India also decided to rest fast bowler Mohammed Shami, bringing on Umesh Yadav for the game.

Australia also made two changes to the team that lost the second Test by six wickets in New Delhi, with fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green coming in for Pat Cummins and David Warner, who have both returned home.

Steve Smith is captaining Australia in the match.

India have already taken a 2-0 lead in the four-Test series to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Rohit Sharma said India playing to win.

“We’ll have a bat first. It’s a very good dressing room and as you said morale is high. The players are confident in their skills which is a good thing going forward. We have played a lot of cricket (here) but this (surface) is a bit different. Looks a bit dry and you have to adapt your skills and be in it all the time. We are not there yet (WTC final) and we have to come and win this game, we have to try and replicate the things that we did in the first two Tests. It is important to be present. We have made two changes – Gill has come in place of KL. We have rested Shami and Umesh has come,” said Rohit at the toss.
