Twitter’s verification program was first introduced nearly 14 years ago to prevent celebrities, notable people and journalists from being impersonated.

Here’s what Twitter users—including celebrities—have to say about the ‘Legacy Verified’ checkmark being gone.

That day has come – all ‘legacy’ verified check marks on Twitter are gone, except for a few celebrities chosen by Elon Musk. Following the move, formerly verified accounts showed nothing but disapproval – with many criticizing the move and even calling it “the worst move” in Twitter’s history.

Twitter’s verification program was first introduced nearly 14 years ago to prevent celebrities, notable people and journalists from being impersonated and to stop the spread of misinformation. However, the coveted checkmark can only be achieved through purchasing Twitter Blue for Rs 650 per month on web and Rs 900 per month on iOS and Android.

Twitter, after the verification badge was removed, erupted with users expressing grief, and some admitted that they had a great time on the platform before Musk took over the company in October last year.

Here’s what Twitter users—including celebrities—had to say about it:

The Checkmark Purge Hasn’t Spared Athletes And WWE Wrestlers Too,Including Sheamus and Alexa Bliss.

On a serious note, several journalists have pointed out the ill effects caused by the move. ,Elon thinks it’s a funny joke. As a former verified account that lost its blue checkmark, I know how dangerous this really is. People are going to die,” said Julie Melner, a journalist.

He said, “Celebrities are being maligned left and right. Internet live streamer Hasan Pikar has attracted the attention of many impersonators. Including the one who is telling people he is gay. I can’t put the words together to describe how big of a deal this is.”
