Twitter Announces Big Change To Increase Its Users, Now Requires Sign In To View Tweets

New Delhi: Twitter will now require users to have an account on the social media platform to view tweets, a move that owner Elon Musk called a “temporary emergency measure” on Friday. Users who attempt to view content on the Platform will be prompted to sign up for an account or log in to an existing account in order to view their favorite Tweets.

“Our data was being plundered so much that it was an outrageous service to normal users!” Musk said in a tweet. He added that hundreds of organizations or more were scraping Twitter data “very aggressively”, affecting the user experience.

Musk has previously expressed displeasure over artificial intelligence firms such as OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT, using Twitter’s data to train their big language models.

“We will certainly take legal action against those who stole our data and expect to see them in court, which is (hopefully) 2 to 3 years from now,” he added.

In a letter addressed to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Musk’s lawyer Alex Spiro in May asked the tech giant to audit Twitter’s use of content, alleging that the Windows developer had stolen the social media company’s data. has violated an agreement on use.

The company has also initiated several measures to bring back advertisers who left the Musk-owned platform and increase subscription revenue by making the verification check mark part of the Twitter Blue program.

Earlier in the month, Twitter announced plans to refocus the social media company’s business beyond digital advertising to focus on video, creator and commerce partnerships.

Twitter has also started charging users to access its application programming interface (API) used by third-party apps and researchers.
