Twin earthquakes shake Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda region; no damage reported

Earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir: Two earthquake tremors were felt in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning. According to the National Center for Seismology, the first earthquake occurred at 5.38 am, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale. Meanwhile, officials said that there was no immediate report of any damage.

It was told that the epicenter of the earthquake was 10 km below the earth’s surface in Doda area. The NCS said it occurred at latitude 33.15 degrees north and longitude 75.68 degrees east. It reads, “An earthquake of Magnitude: 4.9 occurred on 10-07-2023 at 05:38:54 IST, Latitude: 33.15 & Longitude: 75.68, Depth: 10 kms, Area: Doda, Jammu & Kashmir (sic). ” Twitter.

The second earthquake occurred at around 5:43 am, measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was 8 kilometers below the surface of the earth. It occurred at 33.15 degree latitude and 75.70 degree east longitude, north of Doda region.

Earthquake tremors were felt several times in Doda in the last one month.

According to officials, since June this year, 12 tremors of varying intensities have hit Doda. On June 13, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck the district, causing cracks in dozens of buildings, including houses.

Earlier on June 14, there was an earthquake of 4.3 magnitude in Katra city of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 2:20 pm 81 km east of Katra at a depth of 10 km.

The report said that a day earlier on June 13, earthquake tremors were felt in the Delhi-NCR region and parts of North India. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale occurred 30 km southeast of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. The tremors were felt for about 20 seconds.
