What is ‘Operation Dost’?

India launched “Operation Dost” to provide assistance to Turkey and Syria after Monday’s devastating earthquake that has killed over 19,300 people in the two countries so far.

NDRF is working to pull out the surviving victims from under the debris and provide first aid before handing over the injured to the medical response authorities.

Officials said the force is using chip and stone cutters to break fallen concrete slabs and other infrastructure and has depth radars that pick up faint sounds such as a person’s heartbeat or voice. Teams on the ground have rapidly deployed antennae and satellite phones for communications.

Four dogs along with three teams were sent along with seven four-wheelers and trucks, which were brought by Indian Air Force (IAF) C-17 heavy lift aircraft from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad to Adana Airport in Turkiye.
