The M1 chipset is made using 5nm technology, the M2 is expected to be 4nm and similarly, the M3 is expected to have a 3nm process. The new M1 chipsets for MacBooks- M1 Pro and M1 Max- were launched this year and as per a report in Commercial Times, ‘M2’ and ‘M2 Pro’ chipsets are set to launch alongside M2 in 2022 and 2023 respectively. The chip is codenamed Staten, while the M2 Pro chip is rhodes as codename. Keeping this in mind, if we are to believe the Digitimes report, things do not add up. why would Apple Try bringing in two generations of Mac chipsets in the same year? The likely conclusion is that DigiTimes’ M3 chip could be the M2 Pro of Commercial Times reports.

So, with all these reports and rumours, it looks like we can hang our hats on the 4nm chipset on the Mac that is coming next year.
