In three villages of Chhota Udepur district of Gujarat, the groom’s sister goes to get married as a groom. Not only does the procession take place, but in the pavilion with the bride, the groom also takes the mangal rounds as sister. Performing the rituals, the couple returns to the groom’s village. Naresh, son of Harising Raising Rathwa of Ambala village was married to Leela, daughter of Vajaliya Himta Rathwa of Ferkuva village. This tradition is also respected by the people of other tribal societies. So the bridegroom’s sister took the real one from Ambala for the procession.
God is a bachelor, so the boys do not take the procession
The adorable gods of Ambala, Surkheda and Sanada villages are Bharmadeva and Khoonpawa. He is also the adorable god of the tribal society. It is believed that Bharmadeva is a bachelor god. Therefore, if a boy from Ambala, Surkheda and Sanada villages takes a procession, he has to become the wrathful worshiper of God.

To avoid the wrath and save the villagers, the groom’s sister takes the procession and takes mangal rounds.

This tradition has been there for centuries
Besan Rathwa of Ambala village told that this tradition is going on for centuries. A few years ago, adopting modernity, three youths tried to change the tradition. Unfortunately all three youths passed away due to some reason. That is why marriages take place in our village society only under the traditions. This tradition is similar to Khandu marriage.
