On checking, we found that the vehicle was loaded with over 500 kg of firecrackers packed in plastic bags. The entire truck was covered with plastic wrap,” said a police officer.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Preet Pal Sagwan told TOI that the consignment was to be transported to five different places in Delhi. “The accused had planned to enter the capital after midnight. Since the sale of firecrackers is banned in Delhi-NCR, people have resorted to smuggling them from adjoining districts and states,” the ACP said, adding that the police were trying to find out whether the supplier had a place to sell firecrackers. and had a valid license to supply. .
