Tripura is vulnerable to the Delta Plus variant as 138 people test positive for the strain

The Delta Plus variant of COVID-19, considered a matter of concern, is now posing a threat to Tripura. According to health officials, the ‘Delta Plus’ version is now prominent and active in all the districts of the state.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Tapan Majumdar, Head, Department of Microbiology, AGMC, said that out of 151 samples, a total of 138 samples were found to have Delta Plus variant, 10 Delta strain and remaining three UK variants.

Out of the 138 samples with the ‘delta plus’ variant reported, 115 samples were in West Tripura district alone, followed by 8 in Sepahijala, 5 in Gomti, 2 in South Tripura, Khowai, 1 in Dhalai, 4 in Unakoti, and 2. In North Tripura district, Dr Tapan Majumdar said.

Expressing his concern over the spread of the Delta Plus variant, the microbiologist appealed to all to be vigilant and strictly follow the COVID guidelines.

The government has now imposed a 24-hour weekend curfew, which will be like a total lockdown in the state of Tripura after the Delta Plus variant reported over 90 cases. Weekend curfew will start from 12 noon on Saturday to 6 am on Monday, this is a ploy to break the chain.
