Tripura Elections: EC to Hold Booth-level Peace Meetings Ahead of Vote Counting

Dinakrao said booth-level peace meetings are scheduled to be held on February 27 and 28, urging all political parties, eminent citizens and professionals to participate.

Election Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinkarrao said the commission has decided to organize booth-level “peace meetings” in Tripura as part of its efforts to ensure that no untoward incident takes place anywhere in the state during and after the counting process. Have decided.

The counting of votes for the 60-member assembly is to be held at 21 places on March 2.

“We were able to conduct the polling process on February 16 without any glitches, with the state recording a high polling percentage. Our next mission is to ensure that there is peace in the state on the day of counting.

Dinakrao said booth-level peace meetings are scheduled to be held on February 27 and 28, urging all political parties, eminent citizens and professionals to participate.

“Political parties need to exercise restraint after the results are declared. I am hopeful that our apprehensions of breach of peace (on the day of counting) will be dispelled.

Noting that there is no cause for concern in the state for the last six days, the CEO said that all the counting halls in the state would have a three-layer security layer.

“State police will guard the first layer, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) will guard the second, and central forces have been deployed for the last layer. Additionally, CCTVs have been installed inside all the 21 counting halls for round-the-clock surveillance,” he said.

The Election Commission has appointed 60 observers to oversee the process in all the constituencies. In addition, there will be micro observers to monitor the cases.

At least 21 people were arrested in Tripura in 18 incidents of violence in a span of two days from February 16, when elections were held in the state.

In Tripura, this time 89.95 percent polling took place.
