Tripura Election Results 2023 Live Updates: Counting Today as BJP Eyes Victory & Tipra Motha ‘Kingmaker’ Role; Left-Cong Rides on Hope

Tripura recorded a voter turnout of 89.98 per cent in the assembly elections, with most exit polls giving a clean sweep to the BJP, but some predicting a hung house in the state of Tripura, where a new party – Tipra Motha – emerged as a may emerge. A potential kingmaker in the elections held a week ago.

To prevent any untoward incident, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed across the state from 6 pm on March 1 to 6 am on March 3, but essential services and examinees have been kept out of its purview. PTI quoting an election official

Who are the top contenders:

Among the top contenders in Tripura is Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who is contesting from Town Bordovali. A Congressman, Saha joined the BJP in 2016 and was made the party’s state president in 2021. Saha, who became a Rajya Sabha MP last year, replaces Biplab Deb, who was asked to resign as chief minister last year.

Congress’s Sudip Roy Barman, a six-time MLA from Agartala who joined the BJP in 2018 but soon returned to the Congress, is also in the race. Till date he has never been defeated.

Tripura’s royal scion, Pradyot Manikya, stayed with the Congress for many years until he broke away to form Tipra Motha. Though he is not in the fray, all eyes are on how the kingmaker’s party fares in the elections.

From the CPI(M), Manik Sarkar, former chief minister of Tripura who served the state for more than 20 years, is a strong face, however, this is the first time he will not be in the electoral fray but campaigning across the country. State to win support for your allies.

Some other top names in the race are Pratima Bhowmick: BJP’s Union minister from Dhanpur constituency; Jishnu Dev Barman: Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura representing Charilam constituency; Jitendra Chowdhary: A strong tribal leader; Birjit Sinha: State Congress President Sinha is contesting from Kailashahar.

What do exit polls say?

Exit polls have given a clean sweep to the BJP in Tripura. According to Axis My India, BJP alliance may win 36-45 seats out of 60, Communist Party of India (Marxist) alliance 6-11 and Tipra Motha Party (TMP) 9-16 seats.

Meanwhile, Matrise predicts 29-36 seats for BJP+, 13-21 for CPM+, 11-16 for TMP and three for others. Jan Ki Baat has predicted 29-40 seats for BJP+, 9-16 for CPM+, 10-14 for TMP and one seat for others. ETG has predicted 24 seats for BJP+, 21 for CPM+, 14 for TMP and one for Others.

However, the ETG-Times Now poll predicted that the BJP would remain the largest party, but with a substantial drop to only 24 seats from its earlier 36, while the Left-Congress would get 21 seats, while Tipra Motha won in tribal areas. Snatched 14 seats. ,
