A legislator of the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal has filed a police complaint alleging that “goons” attached to a toll plaza run by a central agency in Murshidabad district on Sunday attacked them for protesting the higher fee for vehicles. did.

However, officials at the toll plaza in Farakka dismissed the allegation that local MLA Monirul Islam was attacked, and claimed that after refusing to pay the toll tax, the common people protested and his colleagues created a ruckus. did.

“I have been hearing complaints about overcharging by toll plazas located near the West Bengal-Jharkhand inter-state border. When I went there to do my investigation, some goons associated with the toll plaza management reached the spot and charged my vehicle We were thrashed and bricks were thrown. However, I was not physically harmed as the police and local people pulled me out.”

The toll plaza management, however, said that the MLA’s behavior angered the locals, who opposed it and had to leave the spot.

“He refused to pay toll tax for his vehicle and his comrades created a ruckus,” he said, adding that there has been no attack on the MLA.

An official at the Farakka police station said a commotion broke out after Mr Islam reached the spot with around 10 people and bricks-and-stones were later thrown. He said Islam has been pulled out of the area and the situation is now under control.
