Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the inauguration of the Saryu Canal National Project in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. During this, PM Modi paid tribute to Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat from the stage. He said that from where General Rawat stays, he will see the country moving forward.

The Prime Minister expressed his condolences to all the brave warriors killed in the helicopter crash on 8 December. He said- The death of India’s first CDS General Bipin Rawat is a loss for every patriot. He was brave and worked hard to make the armed forces of the country self-reliant, the country is witness to this. India is in misery, but in spite of suffering, we neither stop our pace nor progress.

Praying for the well being of Group Captain Varun Singh

PM Modi prayed for the well being of Group Captain Varun Singh, the lone survivor of the helicopter crash. He said- Doctors are working hard to save the life of Group Captain Varun Singh ji, who lives in Deoria, the son of UP. I pray to Maa Pateshwari to save her life. The nation is with Varun Singh’s family today. With the families of the heroes we have lost.

14 people were aboard the helicopter, 13 lost their lives
The country’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday. Apart from his wife Madhulika, 13 army personnel and officers were on board in this helicopter.

The helicopter was broken into several pieces after the crash.  The fire subsided after the efforts of the rescue team.

Brigadier LS Lidder, Lt Col Harjinder Singh, Wing Commander PS Chauhan, Squadron Leader K Singh, Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitendra Kumar, Lance Naik Vivek Kumar, Lance Naik B. Sai Teja, Junior Warrant Officer Das, Junior Warrant Officer A Pradeep and Havildar Satpal were on board. The lone survivor of the helicopter crash is Group Captain Varun Singh, who is currently in critical condition and is undergoing treatment in Bengaluru.
