According to reports, in their lawsuit, the family is demanding changes to make the concert safer for the fans. Suggested changes include better security, more medical facilities and designated seating.
“Nobody should die to go to concerts,” advocate Richard Mithoff said in a statement to a news agency.
“The pain of our loss from our son John not making our home alive from an incident like this is unbearable,” Mr Hilgert told Fox26. “He was a handsome young man who only wanted to enjoy his first concert with friends, which he treasured to spend time with more than anything else.”
The family’s lawyers are also representing a friend of Hilgert’s who was injured in the alleged mob but made it out.
Scott was performing on stage during the boom that killed ten people and has since faced criticism for allowing the show to continue while people struggled in the crowd. The rapper claims that he did not know the gravity of the situation.
Scott and the organizers of the event have been targeted by multiple lawsuits following the deaths at Astroworld. Ten people died and others were injured.
