Los Angeles: Transgender Runners CeCe Telfer has been thrown out of US Olympic test after failing to meet world athletics standards regarding testosterone levels, usa track and field said on Thursday.
Telfer, who was due to compete in the opening heat of the women’s 400m hurdles on Friday, was unable to provide evidence that she met the testosterone threshold set by the world. Exercise in 2019.
The world athletics standards, which apply to all women’s running events between the 400 meters and one mile, came amid a long-running controversy about Olympic 800 meters champion Castor Semenya of South Africa.
USATF confirmed that Telfer had not demonstrated his eligibility to race at the trials in Eugene, Oregon, this week.
The federation said Telfer was informed of eligibility requirements prior to the trial, but was not able to show compliance.
“USATF strongly supports inclusivity and provides a clear path for participation in sport for all, while also maintaining competitive fairness,” the federation said in a statement.
“If CeCe meets the conditions for future transgender athlete participation, we wholeheartedly support their participation in international events as a member of Team USATF.”
