Indian security forces personnel are engaged in neutralizing terrorists in Bhatta Durrian forest of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. It is believed that these well-trained terrorists are fighting under the leadership of a retired officer of the Pakistan Army. He is guiding them and teaching them to fight.

The operation started on 11 October. Today, on the 16th day, there was firing of security forces and terrorists. This is the longest running anti-terror operation in a row. Earlier, between December 2008 and January 2009, the anti-terror operation ran for nine consecutive days. The terrorists were forced to flee due to the befitting reply of the army.

9 soldiers of the army martyred in this operation
The security forces have adopted a ‘wait and watch’ policy. So far 4 terrorists have been killed by the soldiers. 9 soldiers of the army have been martyred in this operation, including 2 JCOs. On October 11, terrorists ambushed a search party, killing 5 soldiers, including a JCO, in the Surankote forest of Poonch. After this, the cordon and search operation was increased to eliminate the fleeing terrorists of the security forces. On 14 October, terrorists attacked again and 4 soldiers including a JCO were martyred in the attack of terrorists in Nar Khas forest of Mendhar.

Arrested Pakistani terrorist killed in encounter
Two police officers and a jawan were injured on Sunday. A Pakistani terrorist of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed in an encounter in Bhata Dhuriyan area. He was identified as Zia Mustafa. He was lodged in Court Bahlawal Jail since 2003. Jia was taken to identify a whereabouts. Even after Zia’s arrival, the terrorists started firing. Mustafa was also injured in this attack. Due to the firing, he could not be taken to the hospital in time and he died.

Use of Drones and Helicopters to Help Soldiers
Drones and helicopters have been pressed into service to assist the marching troops, including para-commandos, in the forest at a distance of four kilometers from the LoC, officials said. He said a large part of the forest has been cleared and searches are now confined to cave sites. After the initial encounters on October 11 and October 14, there was no trace of the terrorists.
