Train robbery: Karnataka woman robbed of gold, cash worth Rs 8.61 lakh | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: A train journey from Bengaluru to Ankola in Uttara Kannada district turned into a nightmare for a family of four, after a woman was robbed of a bag with gold ornaments and cash. In a bid to catch hold of the robber, she jumped out of a moving train and sustained injuries.
According to the Mangaluru Railway police, who have launched a probe into the case, the incident took place between 2.20am to 2.30am near Kabaka Puttur railway station. The police said that Ramesh Naik, his wife Nirmala and two children were travelling in a sleeper coach of train number 16595, from Bengaluru and their seats were near the door.
From Sakleshpur, they spotted a man who was moving around suspiciously. When the train was reaching Kabaka Puttur, he snatched the bag that the lady had securely tied around her hand and placed it behind her head. The woman without thinking twice started chasing the accused who got out of the train and she too jumped out. In the melee, she sustained injuries.
The woman was rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru. She is learnt to be out of danger and the upset family has decided to go back to Bengaluru, instead of celebrating the Ganesha festival with family.
Police said, since she was overprotective about the bag, the robber was probably confident that that bag contained valuables. The family told the police that they were carrying gold and cash worth an approximate Rs 8.61 lakh as they were heading home to be part of the festival celebrations. The CCTV footage is being examined.
