Former England wicket-keeper batsman Sarah Taylor has become the first woman coach in a men’s professional franchise cricket after being named as the assistant coach of Team Abu Dhabi for the Abu Dhabi T10 League starting November 19. Taylor, who won two ICC Women’s World Cups, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and represented England 226 times during an illustrious playing career, will serve as an assistant to head coach Paul Farbrace.
Team Abu Dhabi has roped in former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener, who is currently the head coach of the Afghanistan team playing in the T20 World Cup. As well as continuing to work with the Sussexes, Taylor also coaches at Beds School in the same county.
While she remains open to more playing opportunities, Taylor turned down a sporting gig to work with Team Abu Dhabi this winter and is hoping to be able to pick the brains of the likes of Farbrace and Klusener.
