Toyota Innova Crysta registers 130x growth in sales, followed by Fortuner

The Indian automotive market has seen a lot of turmoil in the last two years. Initially, the breakout of COVID-19 brought the industry to a halt, and while it was slowly recovering from the plague, global semiconductor chip shortages emerged as another hurdle. Fortunately, the industry is slowly regaining its momentum. We are happy to share that Toyota Innova Crysta has registered the highest annual growth rate for May this year. One of the most preferred MPVs in the country registered a 13x growth in sales on a year-on-year basis for May 2022. Last month it got 2,737 buyers. However, in the same month last year, this figure was just 20 units.

Behind it is another Toyota. Before you make any guesses, let us tell you that we are talking about Toyota Fortuner. It registered a growth of 7,793 per cent year-on-year. In May last year, Toyota was able to sell only 15 units of the Fortuner in the Indian market. The Japanese automaker recorded total sales of 1,184 units. Other models of the company also registered positive growth in sales. Urban Cruiser and Glanza registered a growth of 739 per cent and 891 per cent, respectively.

Interestingly, the company’s current flagship offering in the Indian market – Vellfire – registered a year-on-year growth of 4,300 per cent as the luxury MPV sold 44 units against the only unit sold in the same month last year.

Toyota currently sells a total of seven products in the Indian market. The line-up includes Urban Cruiser, Vellfire, Glanza, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Camry and Hilux. Additionally, the company has a few products in the launch pipeline for this year. The list includes the upcoming Urban Cruiser header, which is slated to unveil on July 1. However, this year is likely to launch around the festive season.
