‘Tough one to take in’: Jofra Archer disappointed to miss Ashes at the bottom

Jofra Archer has expressed his disappointment at being ruled out of the ongoing Ashes series due to injury. The first match between England and Australia began on Wednesday at the Gabba in Brisbane. The right-arm pacer could not take part in the tournament as he has been out of action since August this year due to a recurrence of a stress fracture in his right elbow.

Speaking to Channel Seven, Archer said that the tour of Australia is something a fast bowler would never want to miss.

“It was hard to see the ball seaming and bouncing around a bit. Jeez, it really is a cricket tour as a fast bowler that you don’t want to miss,” Archer said in an interaction with Channel Seven.

Archer also shared an update on his progress from an elbow injury.

“I think the second last bit of the scan is done. The results just came out yesterday and it’s actually looking quite promising. Everything is going well. It’s just a matter of waiting a little longer and having a little patience.” I’m almost at the end of the road,” he said.

The 26-year-old was not sure why England kept Stuart Broad and James Anderson out of the first Ashes Test but expressed confidence in captain Joe Root’s decision making. The ongoing Test at The Gabba is the first Ashes Test since the Boxing Day Test in 2006 to not feature either Anderson or Broad in England’s playing XI.

“Well, they look pretty balanced. I’m not sure of the logic of why either Jimmy or Brody isn’t on the team. But I know Ruthie is a very smart guy and I know that He would probably have weighed all the options and it could be the best plan or the best team to go into the first Test, so I’m just going back on that,” Jofra said.

“To be honest, I don’t think any team would be planning to go all-out, especially before the game is over. Another season of cricket is yet to come. But hopefully luck can go both ways and we can get them down two or three before the game is over. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t go there and get him out under the same 147. Hopefully people will give it their best shot,” he signed off.
