With ample variation on the monthly sales tally, the Indian market is witnessing a roller coaster ride. The trend of Maruti Suzuki models taking the top spot has been seen for a long time, and it continued in the month of January as well. In fact, Maruti Suzuki topped the list for the month of January 2023. Hyundai took the position of the second largest carmaker, with Tata Motors hot on its heels as the third largest automaker in the country. Talking about model-wise sales, Maruti Suzuki’s Alto got a lion’s share of buyers last month. Well, no wonder, Maruti Suzuki Alto was the best selling car for the month of January 2023.
It was followed by Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR which gained 1 per cent. Interestingly, the Maruti Suzuki Swift registered a decline of 14 per cent with sales of 16,640 units, yet it managed to retain the position of third best selling car in the country. Also joining the bandwagon was the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which stood at the fourth position with a growth of 141 per cent.
The fifth position was reserved by the country’s first car to achieve a 5-star GNCAP crash test rating. Of course, Tata Nexon. Positions 6 and 7 were retained by Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Brezza with a growth of 52 per cent and 50 per cent respectively. While Tata Nexon is the best seller of the domestic brand, Punch is the 2nd best seller for the company and 8th best seller for the Indian market with 12,006 copies sold.

Maruti Suzuki Eeco stepped up to the ninth position. The people-mover recorded sales of 11,709 units, registering a growth of 11 per cent. The 10th best selling car in the country was the Maruti Suzuki Dzire with 11,317 units sold.
