In a recent roundtable, Venkatesh criticized the story of KGF.

Tollywood director Maha Venkatesh Maha is best known for his film C/o Kancharapalem (2018). She was praised for this slice-of-life Telugu-language anthology film. Recently, Venkatesh grabbed headlines for his comments on the popular Yash-starrer film franchise, KGF. Directed by Prashant Neel, the film became a huge success at the box office and broke several records. Yash gained pan India star status after the success of the KGF franchise.

While the audience and critics have showered praises on the film, Venkatesh has a different perspective.

In a recent roundtable, the filmmaker indirectly took a dig at the story of KGF. Without naming the film, he said, “A mother asks her son to become a great man by looting all the gold in the world and in the end he throws all the gold in the sea! Would a mother ask her son to become a goon; I want to meet such a mother.

Ever since the video of Venkatesh’s comment surfaced on social media, KGF fans have been trolling him. Many fans of Yash have now hit back saying that it is not right to criticize a film so badly. Others are trolling Venkatesh by making memes.

A meme by Yash’s fan page read, “Jokers meet at one place and crack jokes about the film whose first show collection was more than the lifetime number of his underground films.”

He said, ‘It is said that it is not good for a director to talk so badly about another film. Those who have done two films are saying that it is wrong to call it Pan India film… KGF films are commercial films.. will remain so.. Nandini Reddy replied on this matter.. and clarified. He had also tweeted about it.

Venkatesh further revealed in the interview that he has not been coming up with new films of late, as filmmakers have been turning down his films – saying they are more suitable for OTT, and not ‘pop-corn’ films Are. Venkatesh also said that he feels that people do not care about the story in pop-corn films; They care more about the popcorn in the tub. He said that if the makers are encouraging people to watch such things, then it has given a wrong message to the public.
