The main accused and owner of the illegal firecracker manufacturing unit Kalipada alias Bhanu Bagh had succumbed to his injuries at a private nursing home in Odisha’s Cuttack, where he had fled soon after the blast on May 16.

The death toll in the blast at an illegal firecracker factory in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district rose to 11 as one more person, who was critically injured in the blast, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. A senior official gave this information on Saturday.

He said that Rabindranath Maiti, who suffered 80 per cent burns, was undergoing treatment at the Government SSKM Hospital here, he died on Friday.

“He had third-degree burn injuries. After being brought here, his condition continued to deteriorate and he died last evening.”

Another injured in the blast, Pinki Maiti, is undergoing treatment at the hospital and her condition is also “very critical”, he said.

West Bengal CID is probing the blast in Agra area.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Friday issued a notice to the West Bengal government seeking a detailed report on the blast within four weeks.
