NEW DELHI: A guest lecturer at a private pre-university college in Karnataka‘s tumakuru submitted her resignation after she was told she would have to remove her hijab to enter the campus.
Chandini teaches English and has been with the college for the past three years. She decided to quit on Wednesday after the college principal told her not to wear a hijab on campus. Chandini said the college never had a problem with her wearing a hijab for the past three years but now, suddenly, she was told not to wear one. She said she refused to remove it. In her resignation, she said the Constitution has given her the right to practice any religion. She condemned “undemocratic” act of the principal. The HC order reads: “Pending consideration of all these petitions, we restrain all students regardless of their religion or faith from wearing saffron shawls (Bhagwa). , , ,
