Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has lauded the Indian men’s hockey team, saying the Olympic medal will mark the beginning of a golden era for the sport after 41 years.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday lauded the Indian men’s hockey team, saying the Olympic medal will mark the beginning of a golden era for the sport after 41 years. Maharashtra Olympic Association chief Pawar said in a statement that the victory, which came after 41 years of hard work and waiting, cannot be described in words.

India beat Germany 5-4 on Thursday to secure a podium finish at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. “The prestige of the country has risen and the bronze medal will mark the beginning of a golden era for the sport,” Pawar said.

He said that the players, coaches and their teammates deserve best wishes for winning the medal with the determination to win against all odds.
