Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games: PM Modi to hold talks with Indian contingent on August 17

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the Indian para-athlete contingent for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games at 11 am on Tuesday via video conferencing, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. India’s largest contingent ever, comprising 54 para-athletes from nine sporting disciplines, will participate in the Paralympic Games, to represent India at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. This time India will be eyeing to win a record medal.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur will also be present during the virtual interaction. The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games are to be held from August 24 to September 5. With the women’s and men’s and archery events, India will begin its campaign on August 27.

Meanwhile, at this year’s Independence Day celebrations, Indian Olympians were invited as guests. This was the first time in the history of India’s Independence Day celebrations that Olympic athletes were also invited as dignitaries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a special meeting with the Indian athletes who made India proud at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. On this occasion, Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal in Olympics 2020, was served his favorite churma, while shuttler PV Sindhu was served. Ice cream was served by the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, the bronze medal winning Indian men’s hockey team presented an autographed hockey stick to PM Modi to end a 41-year medal-drought. This year’s Olympics was memorable for India as the country won a total of 7 medals for the first time in the history of the Games.
