Modi surname defamation case: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti hit out at the Center over the Surat court’s decision to dismiss Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s petition. Surat Court on Wednesday dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s plea seeking a stay on his conviction in the “Modi surname” defamation case. Reacting to the court order, Mufti alleged that the Center was turning the country into a BJP nation. He further claimed that “today is a black day for this country.”

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti speaking to media persons said that “Today is a black day for this country…” She further accused the Center of scrapping the Indian Constitution. Mufti said, “BJP wants to destroy the constitution here and wants to run this country on their agenda. They want to make this country a BJP nation.”

He launched a scathing attack on the Center over leaders arrested or questioned by the CBI or the ED. He said that the government in power will put people behind bars if they do not fall in line.

‘BJP is scared of Rahul Gandhi’

Mufti stressed on the role of judiciary and highlighted the pending or delayed hearing in some cases like the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. Mufti further supported Rahul Gandhi and praised his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. “Rahul Gandhi has emerged as a strong face for the opposition and the BJP is scared of it. The government wants to eliminate the opposition from the country,” he said.
