Former MLA Kiran Kandolkar, who started the press conference by singing a Hindu verse, said the BJP was trying to portray Banerjee in a “negative light” by calling her a Muslim pro. He also said that apart from West Bengal, Muslims are also settled in Assam and the BJP-led government should first throw out Muslims instead of pointing fingers at TMC.
“Mamata Banerjee is a Brahmin and the daughter of a freedom fighter. In West Bengal, because of the Hindu vote, Mamata secured more than 50% vote share,” he said.
This is not the first time that TMC has exposed Banerjee’s caste and creed. Banerjee had invoked her Brahmin Shaandilyaa gotra during the Bengal assembly elections held earlier this year, when the BJP tried to portray the TMC as a pro-Muslim party.
“BJP keeps saying that TMC is a party of Rohingya Muslims. BJP needs to study and find out where Rohingya Muslims have come from. Most of them are in Assam where the BJP is ruling. Let the Assam government ask them all to be shifted,” Kandolkar said.
