COIMBATORE: A 39-year-old woman clubbed her two children to death and attempted to kill herself in a village in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday evening.
The deceased have been identified as K Harshitha,12, and K Kalaivendan,7, of Athupalayam near Kangeyam. They were studying in classes VII and II, respectively.
Police sources said their mother, K Revathi, often had a sharp pain in her head and was undergoing treatment for it. She would turn angry whenever she had the pain.
On Tuesday evening, she took her children to their farmland. She entered a motor room with her children and latched it from inside. She clubbed the children to death with an iron rod. She then consumed poison to kill herself.
Her husband, M Kanagasampath, returned home around 5pm and searched for them. He went to the farmland in search of them and saw a light in the motor room. As it was locked from inside, he broke the asbestos sheet roof and found his wife and children lying there. He shifted all the three to Kangeyam Government Hospital.
After checking, doctors announced that the children were brought dead. The woman was shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore.
The Vellakovil police registered a murder case against Revathi.
