TMC leaders attacked in ‘Taliban style’, uproar over remarks of Tripura BJP MLA

Agartala: Tripura Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik has courted controversy for asking his party workers to take on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders in a Talibani fashion when they landed at the Agartala airport.

He said, ‘I appeal to all of you that we need to attack them in Talibani style. We need to attack them after they land at the airport.

“We will protect our government led by Biplab Kumar Deb with every drop of blood,” he said.

The BJP MLA made the remarks during the felicitation ceremony of newly-appointed Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhowmick at Belonia Old Town Hall in South Tripura district on Wednesday.

However, BJP has distanced itself from the MLA’s statement. The BJP said it was the MLA’s version and not the saffron party’s.

Bhowmik, who is an MLA from Tripura’s Belonia constituency, said the TMC was trying to damage the state government headed by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, which came to power after ending 25 years of communist rule.

He said that all this is happening due to the instigation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The BJP legislator’s remarks came as TMC leaders, including its national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, are frequently visiting the hill state to keep an eye on the 2023 Tripura assembly elections and to build a base and an organization for the party. What we are trying to do so far has been confined to West Bengal.
