While the sky may be generally cloudy, the maximum and minimum temperatures may be at 33°C and 25°C.
“The morning rains were due to a cyclonic circulation and a low-level trough due to convergence and convective activity,” an IMD official said. Convergence close to the coast led to wetting areas of north and central Chennai as the heavy thunderstorm lasted for several minutes, while south Chennai remained completely dry. Only traces of rain were recorded at Meenambakkam station. The previous 24-hour high was 89.3 mm on August 25, 2014. The official said that due to convergence, it rained along the coast from Nagapattinam to Visakhapatnam.
