Three more test positive for Covid-19 omicron variant in Gujarat, tally reaches 10 Ahmedabad News – Times of India

Ahmedabad: Genome sequencing of three persons who were tested positive for COVID-19 presence detected on arrival in Gujarat omicron Type.

Senior health department officials said one of the three, a 48-year-old resident of Anand, had returned from Dubai at the SVP International Airport in Ahmedabad. The third case is of a 15-year-old boy who had returned from Britain to Gandhinagar to see his ailing grandfather. District health officials said that the boy has also been admitted to a private hospital in Gandhinagar district, his condition is stable.
District-wise patients include three from Jamnagar, two each from Surat and Vadodara and one each from Gandhinagar, Mehsana and Anand. Three patients have already been discharged in Jamnagar, there are currently seven Omicron active patients in the state.
Dr Rakesh Joshi, Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, said that from experience across the state so far, omicron patients are asymptomatic and just need basic health monitoring. “But as the variant is known to be contagious, it should not be taken lightly. Citizens should take all precautions to break the chain,” he said.
State health department officials said all 10 cases either had travel history to African countries or the UK or had direct contact with someone with a travel history. Thus, screening at airports is likely to be stricter, he added.
